Buddy Rosar was a Major League Baseball catcher who played from 1939-51. During this time, he played for the NY Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Athletics, and the Boston Red Sox. He was an All Star selection in 1942, ’43, ’46, ’47, and ’48. Buddy was also a two time World Series Champion with the NY Yankees in 1939 and 1941. In 1946 Rosar set the record for errorless games by a catcher after playing in 117 games for the Athletics. He extended this streak into the next season, and ended up playing in 147 consecutive errorless games, a record that is second only to Yogi Berra’s 148 games. He also led MLB catchers in fielding percentage in 1944, ’46, ’47, and ’48. Buddy Rosar holds the 20th Century record for fewest passed balls per game caught (0.0300) with only 28 miscues in 934 games as a catcher. After his career in the Major Leagues, Buddy Rosar returned to Buffalo to work at the Ford plant as an engineer.
